Communications Internship
Join our international non-profit as a Communications Intern and gain hands-on experience in digital storytelling, campaigns, and social media while helping ensure safer births for women.
Are you our next Communications Intern?
Are you a creative, digitally capable communicator seeking hands-on experience in website design and content creation?
Then you might be the communications intern we are looking for this fall!
What We Offer
During your internship, you’ll gain valuable insights into how a global non-profit operates, and you’ll be part of an international team passionate about improving maternal and newborn health. We value the unique perspectives and creativity our interns bring and are committed to providing a meaningful and engaging learning experience.
As part of the communications team, you will receive guidance and support from our Head of Communications and work closely together with our Visual Storyteller.
A key focus for this fall is rebuilding Maternity Foundation’s website to ensure it is ready for a fast‑changing media landscape. We invite you to bring your knowledge, skills, and perspectives to support us in this process.
Your Role
Responsibilities during your internship:
Working with our Visual Storyteller to develop our new website.
Contributing to our social media presence.
Producing written and visual content that showcases our activities and impact in engaging ways across platforms. This includes liaising with colleagues across offices in Ethiopia, India, and Denmark.
Providing general administrative and ad-hoc support to the communications team.
Practicalities
The internship is for the Fall term 2026 for a minimum of three months (starting in August/September). It can be pursued part-time (approx. 10–15 hours per week) with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules.
The role can be based in Copenhagen (HQ) or remote, with standard working hours from 9:00 to 17:00 CET and flexibility upon agreement. You will have regular check-ins with your supervisor to support your learning and professional development.
For an internship at Maternity Foundation you are required to be enrolled in an educational programme as a Bachelor or Master student whose internship is integrated into an academic programme. As this is an unpaid position, applicants should be receiving financial support from a third party (e.g., SU/CSN/Erasmus Stipendium or another student funding source). Internships can be part time or full time for a minimum 3 months.

About Maternity Foundation
We are a team of roughly 40 colleagues working across our three global hubs in Ethiopia, Denmark, and India. We come from various backgrounds – global health, midwifery, anthropology, IT, and business – and take pride in an entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude. Together, we are an ambitious and purpose-driven team working in a welcoming and informal atmosphere.
What unites us is a goal to ensure safer births for women and newborns – everywhere. Every other minute, a woman dies during pregnancy or birth, and every fourteenth second, a newborn suffers the same fate. Most deaths happen in remote and fragile settings, but the majority can be prevented with access to quality care. Through our Safe Delivery Programme, we support midwives and other healthcare professionals in providing quality care to mothers and newborns. Central to the programme is our free, offline-capable and locally adapted Safe Delivery App. To date, we have reached more than 500,000 midwives and other healthcare professionals across 70+ low- and middle-income countries.
